Betty brings Lisa to OKFD for a day
of fun and enrichment in our unique
daycare environment.
Bettys day begins at 5 :00 am, when she gets up to shower and get
ready for work. The Oklahoma City widow has a busy day ahead.
By 6:30, her daughter Lisa is awake and hungry. Lovingly, she changes
Lisas diaper, lifts her from the bed and kisses her cheek. She feeds
and dresses Lisa before loading her into the van, securing her in her
car seat and driving her to daycare. She leaves her with friends and adoring
caregivers, secure that Lisa will be loved and cared for while Betty works.
Lisa is 36 years old.
Lisa
is developmentally disabled.
She
will never be able to care for herself.
Betty
is Lisas lifelong caregiver.
She
could have put Lisa in a nursing home
but she didnt.
Betty is blessed by Lisa. She is fortunate that Lisas two older
brothers and their families live nearby and help out when they can...
And Betty and her family are blessed to have
help from the Oklahoma Foundation for the Disabled (OKFD). For over 45
years, OKFD has provided extensive social and recreational activities,
as well as respite services, for developmentally delayed adults and their
families.
