What We Do
We begin each morning with specialized transportation service to and from a client’s home. Our experienced and caring drivers travel throughout central Oklahoma an estimated 14,000 miles each month and cover many communities and several counties. Each bus and van is designed to accommodate the special needs of our clients, particularly those with wheelchairs. Bus service begins at 7:00 a.m. and ends at 5:30 p.m.
Our clients enjoy numerous activities that stimulate both the body and the mind and these include board games, movies, dancing, scouting, field trips to museums, parks, plays and performances, arts and crafts, computer keyboarding and sports like pool, bowling and basketball. Each holiday throughout the year is treated as a special occasion, with festive foods, music and décor.
During the day, each client receives a mid-morning snack, a nutritional lunch in a group setting, and a mid-afternoon snack.
Based on a client’s needs, we can arrange on-site access to physical, occupational and speech therapists. To provide such a full range of activities and services we maintain a 1:4 staff-client ratio. We employ a social worker and an activities director, and benefit from advice from professional dietitian and nurse consultants. All staff are qualified and tested according to state regulations.
Unique to the Foundation is our Thursday night dinner dance, where clients, along with other developmentally disabled adults in central Oklahoma, gather to enjoy music, dancing, sports and a nutritious meal. We average 140 participants at each Thursday night event.
Last but not least, we provide respite to a client’s caregivers, enabling them to take time away from hands-on care of their loved ones to accomplish personal tasks and obligations including income-producing jobs, grocery shopping and tending to the needs of other family members.
